CHOOSING THE CORRECT HIBLOW AIR PUMP
As you can see from the options above, there are many different sizes of Hiblow air pumps to choose from. Below is further information that breaks down the difference between all of the Hiblow models that are available.
HIBLOW HP VS XP SERIES
The Hiblow HP series has long been considered the best linear pump available on the market. Since 2002, the HP series has led the industry in product reliability. The HP series continues to be the workhorse of the Hiblow product line.
AIR FLOW VOLUME (LPM, CFM)
The most significant difference between the available Hiblow models is the air flow volume. This can be given in units of either cubic feet of air per minute (cfm) or liters of air per minute (LPM). The air flow volume of an particular model also depends on the operating pressure (p.s.i). On our website we give the CFM in terms of "open flow". This would be a maximum airflow rating with the air pump running at 0 p.s.i. As the pressure increases the air flow volume will decrease. The LPM metric that we give on our website is the volume of air at the pump's rated pressure. For the Hiblow HP-80 unit for instance, the maximum airflow is 4.2 cfm (119 LPM) operating at 0 p.s.i., and the rated air flow is 80 LPM (2.83 cfm) operating at the rated pressure of 2.13 p.s.i.
OPERATING PRESSURE
As mentioned above, as the operating pressure of an air pump increases the air flow volume decreases. Generally when installed on an aerobic treatment septic system, the Hiblow air pumps will operate at between 2-3 psi. If the Hiblow air pump is being used for pond aeration, it will depend a lot on the depth of water. It takes 0.43 p.s.i. to overcome 1 ft of water. All of the Hiblow pumps have a maximum continuous operating pressure rating. This is the maximum pressure that the pump can run at continuously in an application without causing damage to the unit.
PUTTING IT ALL TOGETHER
By determining the amount of airflow volume needed (cfm, LPM) and figuring out the operating pressure (p.s.i.) of the application, you can use the flow curves provided on the product pages to determine which Hiblow model will be best to provide the correct amount of air flow for your application.
